Saint Petronilla Hermitage

On the Footstep of the miraculous water of the Saint

Among the woods of Pian di Rocca in Castiglione della Pescaia there was a hermitage dedicated to the figure of Santa Petronilla 500 years ago, linked to the source of water considered miraculous.

According to Christian tradition, the Saint, daughter of the apostle Peter, was miraculously cured of leprosy thanks to the miraculous water that gushed from the earth. For centuries the local population periodically gathered in the hermitage praying for thanks on the afflictions of their families.

Today, a forgotten and isolated site in the woods, welcomes the visitor with great charm, telling us the intimate story of the folklore of Castiglione della Pescaia.
